Discover Walks in Ottoman Istanbul

Ottoman Monuments around Sultanahmet:

This four hour walk is the best way to get acquainted with the old city.

Blue Mosque in Sultanahmet Square

Topkapi Palace:

Witness the glory of the Ottomans.  The heart of the great Ottoman Empire, ruled by the monarch who lived in Topkapı’s hundreds of rooms and four courtyards with a huge family  and servants for nearly 400 years.

 Blue Mosque:

Only called so in guide books…What is the real name?

The world famous Sultanahmed Mosque is one of Istanbul’s premier sights. The imperial mosque is still a working one with fascinating blue tile work.  With its 6 minarets and great cascades of domes, it is an Ottoman engineering feat.

The Tomb of Sultan Ahmed I:

Just 13 years old when his father died in 1603, Ahmed I was the youngest Sultan to have ascended the throne at the time.

He was 19 when he decided to build the Blue Mosque, unfortunately he had little time to enjoy his mosque; he died of typhoid fever just a year after it was completed.

German Fountain in Sultanahmet Square

Sultanahmet Square, the Janissary Tree and the German Fountain:

The square is the heart of Istanbul’s political, sporting and social life. It was the scene of games, riots, weddings, circumcisions, ceremonies  through 500 years of Ottoman history.

The German Fountain presented as a gift to the Ottoman Sultan in 19th Century marks the end of the area and is a great place where we can talk about Ottoman history, traditions, culture and politics.
